Sierra Vista (Spanish for "Mountain View") is surrounded by several mountain ranges, in fact the city's name describes
its location and at an elevation of 4,623 feet. The surrounding mountains are the Mule, Dragoon, Whetstone and Huachuca Mountains. The population of Sierra Vista is about 42,000. Sierra Vista is
one of the fastest growing communities in Arizona. Sierra Vista is the business and cultural center of Cochise County. Fort Huachuca was annexed into its Sierra Vista Arizona in 1971. The two communities have a
strong working relationship and share facilities and joint activities.
Sierra Vista Arizona (Nicknamed the "Hummingbird Capital of the United States") is a great place for birders and other nature enthusiasts. Its mild climate and location close to the Mexican border boasts a diverse
habitat including the last free flowing river in the Southwest and a mountain range over 9000 foot in elevation.
Points of interest in Sierra Vista are the San Pedro Riparian National
Conservation Area, the Ramsey Canyon Preserve (famous for it’s Hummingbirds), Chiricahua National Monument, the Coronado National Monument in the Huachuca Mountains, Kartchner Caverns State Park and Madera
Canyon.
